Picture this: it's nighttime, and you are nervous inside your own home. There's a smell of rotten food coming from the kitchen, and the lights flicker on and off occasionally, but they mostly stay off. This forces anybody in the house to move by feeling their way along the walls, holding their arm extended out with their phone flashlight shining.
No, this isn't the scene of a horror movie. This scene painted can illustrate what life is like inside the home of a family dealing with a severe power outage. Here in Michigan, this scene is unfortunately all too familiar for some families.
Last month in Southeast Michigan, there was 35,000 customers without power at one single time, according to DTE and Fox 2 Detroit. Windy weather ripped trees out of the ground, and managed to take out some power lines in the process. This caused damages to homes, businesses, and left countless residents in the dark for various amounts of time. Who is to say what other negative affects were felt by those who suddenly lost power to their homes or business?

While we cannot change the weather, we can put a safeguard on ourselves and protect against the negative effects of inclement weather. With the combination of a solar battery and a solar energy system on its roof, a home can withstand power outages and supply the necessary electricity needed to their homes in a crisis.
